The classrooms

Complete, AMI-approved materials

Both the 3-6 and 6-12 classrooms have the complete set of Montessori materials, in perfect condition, from a supplier approved by the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI).

Muriel Guellier, head of school, is also the French-speaking Montessori guide (3-6 and 6-12). An English-speaking guide has joined the school so that the children can also enjoy English immersion.

Our aims

The main aims of the Croix-Rousse Montessori school, and the means we use to achieve them:

  1. Giving children a place where they feel happy, safe and eager to work
  2. Following Maria Montessori’s decalogue for the educator (download the decalogue)
  3. Respecting each child’s needs, pace, personality and dignity
  4. Helping every child to flourish while also finding their place in the group
  5. Enabling children to acquire the fundamental skills and the cultural grounding needed to develop critical thinking
  6. Developing independence, willpower and a sense of responsibility
  7. Helping children build a solid base of knowledge through concrete experience, and fostering a love of learning and a willingness to make an effort
  8. Trusting children to learn by themselves
  9. Helping children become aware of their responsibility towards the planet
  10. Helping children respect and interact with others (children and adults), manage their emotions, resolve conflicts peacefully, and develop self-control and mastery of their body and movement
