Every dayOutings to the Petit Serin park

Under 100 mFrom the elementary class to the shared garden
The Gones go outside every day to the Petit Serin park (300 m from Montessori’s Gones). They also have access to a shared garden less than 100 metres from the Montessori elementary school. “Nature-deficit disorder” has been identified by researchers, which is why bringing nature into the city matters so much.
The effects of nature deficit
They are many:
- Poorly developed ecological awareness (little respect for natural resources, little interest in ecological and environmental issues)
- Less empathy for plants and animals
- Withdrawal into oneself, and a stifling of natural altruism
- Lower self-confidence and self-esteem in children
- Reduced curiosity and creativity
- Duller senses, as the five senses are not stimulated enough (a tablet or screen cannot stimulate like natural scents, the feel of soil or the beauty of nature, which engage all the senses at once)
- Lower cognitive and intellectual performance
- More behavioural difficulties (ADHD, oppositional disorders…)
- Less risk-taking and motor practice, and a loss of physical independence in children
Nature, every day
In the park and in the garden, the Gones observe, plant and take care of living things.
