A different way of learning
I am Muriel Guellier, head of Montessori’s Gones and a Montessori guide.
I support children aged 4 to 12 with French and maths, drawing on the Montessori approach and on hands-on materials suited to their needs.
The aim is to help them review, understand and absorb the fundamental concepts at their own pace, starting from the concrete and moving gradually towards the abstract.
Whether a child is facing occasional difficulties or wants to go further, I offer a personalised approach that respects their journey and their abilities.
An approach that adapts
To each child’s schooling
When a child follows a mainstream curriculum, I build on the methods they already know so as not to unsettle them. Alongside this, I offer other ways into the learning through the Montessori materials.
For example, when a child struggles with a calculation, I go back over the method used at school while letting them handle units, tens, hundreds and thousands. This helps them visualise quantities, make sense of the operations and gradually understand how mathematics works.
Learning without fear of mistakes
Mistakes are part of learning
Rather than pointing them out, I guide the child to spot and understand them for themselves. The Montessori materials offer many ways to self-correct: the child can experiment, check their reasoning and adjust their answers independently.
This encourages reflection, strengthens memory and gradually builds independence.
Handling, experimenting and observing is another way of learning. Hands-on work supports concentration and draws on different kinds of memory, including visual and kinaesthetic memory.
It helps children make sense of what they are learning and remember it better. Throughout the sessions, I listen to the child, take their difficulties into account and celebrate their progress. My aim is to give them a reassuring setting where they can learn at their own pace, rediscover the joy of learning and grow in self-confidence and self-esteem.
Who is it for?
Children aged 4 to 12 who would like to:
- Review the fundamentals of French and maths.
- Overcome learning difficulties by going back over the basics if needed.
- Discover a different way of learning, based on concrete, hands-on experimentation.
- Deepen and consolidate what they have learned at school.
- Learn at their own pace, in a caring environment that respects their needs.
Personalised support, not homework help
The sessions are not about doing the homework set by school. They focus on understanding and mastering the concepts that need to be revisited, consolidated or taken further.
Using the Montessori materials and an approach tailored to each child, I help them understand rather than simply apply, become more independent and progress with confidence.
